Henry VI Part 1: Video Introduction

Thanks to Hailey Bachrach, who is providing the video introductions for all three Henry VI plays.

Hailey Bachrach is a PhD candidate at King’s College London and Shakespeare’s Globe, where she has also worked as a research assistant to the Globe Ensemble. She is also a dramaturg and drama critic, and her writing has appeared in Shakespeare Bulletin, Shakespeare Newsletter, Shakespeare’s Globe Blog, American Theatre Magazine, Oregon ArtsWatch, among others.

Many thanks to my friend Joey Bianco of Whim Wham for the animated video elements.

  1. Thank you! Love the point that WS wasn’t a lone genius but part of a thriving theater culture.

  2. Thank you, this is helpful and her enthusiasm is rubbing off on me as I read these plays for the first time!

  3. I agree that reading the text aloud is very helpful, particularly for such a “wordy” play.
I would have liked some guidance about the characters; the names and titles/positions can be quite confusing.

    1. It can definitely be confusing. I intentionally asked Hailey (and other people offering videos) to keep the videos fairly short, so a character introduction would have made it too long. Good luck!

  4. If you can’t get a group together for a live reading, find the Arkangel recording. It’s excellent.
