  1. these pictures make a useful addition to my imagination as I wrestle with the text of “Pericles”. It is so difficult to fix a period style for the visual aspects of the play; here Gower remains in the middle ages, and the characters are a strange mixture of very early mediaeval and the ancient world. Thank you for these enriching glimpses into someone else’s insights into the play.
